1 Soft Twist Yarn
A term used in the hoisery trade to mean yarn with less than normal turns per inch. Yarns vary in softness and according to the amount of twist are: - Soft, X soft, XX soft, and XXX soft. -
2 Soft Waste
This comprises the fibre that flies off the carding machine, noils from the combing machine, stubbing waste and roving waste. All these wastes can be reused at once by running them back into the carding machine along with new wool. -
3 Soft Warps
A term given to warps that are undersized. On undersized yarns the healds and reed rub the fibres into " runners " or small beads which fail to pass through the reed and cause an excessive number of thread breakages. -
